Founded in 1994, Blue Planet is a long-established and highly experienced fund manager. It has invested in numerous asset classes, jurisdictions and regions across the World including Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, India, Europe, Latin America, Canada and the USA.
Blue Planet is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority with reference number 171195. It provides investment management, administration and company secretarial services to professional clients. It is based in Edinburgh, UK and is registered at Companies House with company number SC149822.
We screen out countries we do not want to invest in
This includes the majority of countries. Our investments are concentrated in the most wealthy, successful, entrepreneurial countries, where their rapidly increasing wealth is reflected in the premium valuations placed on companies listed there.
This is an important aspect of our strategy that helps us to maximise the returns we generate for our investors.
For example, the current trailing PER of the FTSE 100 is 12.48. For the NASDAQ 100 it is 36. Consequently, for every $1 that the earnings of a FTSE 100 constituent grows, $12.48 of value is created for the holder of that stock. In the case of the NASDAQ 100 it adds $36 of value.
We eliminate industries/sectors that are in decline (sunset industries), those whose earnings offer only mediocre growth, or are unpredictable, volatile, and cyclical.
We also screen out industries that overtly damage the environment.
We focus and invest in only those sectors that are generating the most wealth and where there is a high degree of certainty that they will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

To ensure liquidity of the portfolio, we screen out companies with a market capitalisation of less than $5 billion, unless they offer exceptional growth opportunities, and iteratively apply a series of ever more demanding financial tests to what remains, until, through a process of elimination, we end up with the very best, most promising and financially robust companies.
Two categories of companies in particular appeal to us:
Those with high and durable operating margins and whose revenues have shown and are likely to continue to show steady growth. For example, Visa, Mastercard, CME Group, Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor, Broadcom. These highly profitable, steadily growing businesses with wide moats form the bedrock of our portfolio. They reduce volatility, deliver consistent and steady capital appreciation and income growth in the form of a growing stream of dividends.
The second category is the one that adds the most alpha. These are companies whose revenues are growing rapidly and which have a high level of operational gearing. These companies, some of which may not yet be profitable, are likely to see their earnings grow much faster than the market as their operational gearing kicks in. As a result, they are also the most likely to deliver capital growth well in excess of the market.
What we are left with is a high-quality portfolio of shares in some of the fastest-growing, most promising and financially robust companies in the World.
Companies that are listed on stock exchanges where they command a premium valuation relative to other stock exchanges and where future earnings growth will be most highly valued.
