About us

The Directors of Blue Planet Investment Management Ltd have long been concerned about humans’ damage to our natural environment and wish to do something tangible to help reverse this.

One way in which we believe we can do this is by using our ingenuity and skills to create wealth that can then be used to acquire land for re-wilding and to fund other initiatives to restore the natural environment.

It could be argued that charities already do this and to some extent this is true. However, charities are notoriously inefficient with the result that surprisingly little of what they receive ends up being spent on the causes they support.

Typically, only 60 to 70 pence in every £1 donated to them is spent on their stated goals. The rest is consumed by expenses.

We aim to do better than that.

Introduction

We have created a new innovative type of vehicle for investing and charitable donations.

It is one that we believe will appeal to a wide audience and be more efficient and effective than conventional charities at meeting its end goals.

A vehicle that generates its own funds to achieve its goal of restoring the natural environment and which aims to ensure that over 95% of money donated goes to meet that goal.

It takes the inherent characteristics of a charity and combines them with those of a professionally managed investment fund.

It is an investment fund, the Blue Planet Environmental Restoration Fund, with its own sister charity, the Blue Planet Environmental Restoration Initiative, which it will fund.

Investors in the Fund will have the option to donate all or part of their dividend income and shares to the Blue Planet Environmental Restoration Initiative, which will use those funds to acquire land for rewilding and to support other initiatives to restore the natural environment.

It is both a force for good and a savings vehicle.

Why Invest with Us

Investing is an effective way to put your savings to work and potentially build wealth.

Investors have the option to have a direct impact on environmental issues by investing in the Donor share class – donating dividend income direct to charity.

The Opportunity

The stars are aligning to create a rare opportunity for investors who have the foresight to take it. It has arisen because of recent rises in the rate of inflation and interest rates.  An inverse relationship exists between the cost of capital (essentially interest rates) and the value of assets.  As the cost of capital (interest rates) rises the value of assets fall. As the cost of capital (interest rates) falls the value of assets rise.  Consequently, the best time for investors to invest is when interest rates have peaked and are about to fall. That time is fast approaching.

Rising inflation has forced central banks to raise interest rates (i.e., tighten monetary policy) to a degree and with a speed that is unprecedented. Two-year US dollar interest rates illustrate just how extreme this move has been. They have risen from 0.44% in November 2021 to a peak of 4.9% in the space of just 12 months. An 11-fold increase in the cost of borrowing in less than a year. Quite predictably, this led to a collapse in the price of assets including shares and bonds.

Why now is a great time to invest

Because of monetary tightening bonds and shares are now yielding more, and are cheaper, than they have been for many years.  In short, this extreme monetary policy adjustment has created an opportunity to acquire good quality, high yielding assets, and shares in some of the best companies in the World at bargain basement prices. We intend to do that. But where do the prices of those shares and bonds go from here?

Thankfully, this is also predictable. Ultimately, monetary tightening will give way to monetary easing as inflation falls and economies slip into recession. In other words, central banks will be forced to start cutting interest rates to mitigate the recessionary effects and rising unemployment that their anti-inflationary policies will inevitably create.

Inflation in the US peaked in June 2022 and has been falling consistently since and is likely to carry on falling. This means that monetary policy will soon have to be loosened and interest rates cut. This is likely to happen towards the end of this year. When they are, asset prices will rise.  This presents the Fund and its investors with an opportunity - one that we intend to exploit.

Strategy

The Fund will be invested in shares of global companies, predominantly large-cap companies, that have shown a track record of consistently paying a dividend and have additionally grown their dividend distributions over time.

Blue Planet Investment Management Ltd has constructed a diversified portfolio of investments in some 100 of the World's best companies and fastest-growing economies. These have been screened for revenue and profit growth, size, gearing, track record of growing their dividends, and dividend cover. Back-testing the portfolio has shown that the Portfolio would have achieved the Fund's objectives over the test period and provides confidence that it will do so in the future.

The Fund is actively managed, and the Portfolio Manager has assembled a portfolio of companies that are profitable, attractively valued, and exhibit low volatility.

What are we looking for?

At the heart of our Fund is a belief that dividends are the foundation of a successful long-term investment strategy. We have carefully selected stocks that have a history of strong dividend growth in combination with low payout ratios and, most importantly, that the dividends are covered by earnings and free cash flow.

Our investment team considers companies that are attractively valued, with a focus on profitability, low beta, large market capitalizations, and generate good levels of cash flow. This helps us to ensure that our portfolio is made up of financially healthy companies that are well-positioned to weather any market turbulence.

Our fund is designed to provide investors with a consistent and reliable income stream, while also seeking to generate long-term capital appreciation. By investing in high-quality companies with strong fundamentals, we aim to deliver superior returns over the long term.

We believe that our Dividend Growth Fund is an attractive option for investors who are seeking a more stable source of income in their investment portfolio. Our approach focuses on selecting high-quality companies with a history of reliable and growing dividends. This approach can provide investors with a more predictable income stream that can help them to meet their financial needs.

In addition, we believe that our fund's investment strategy is well-suited for investors who are looking for a more conservative approach to investing. Our focus on financially healthy companies with strong fundamentals and a history of consistent dividend growth can help investors to mitigate risk in their portfolio.
